Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): In a significant operation targeting organized crime, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have arrested three individuals involved in trafficking heroin and illegal firearms, recovering 4.5 kilograms of heroin and a pistol, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav confirmed.
Investigations revealed that the accused were in contact with an overseas handler via social media platforms, following instructions to transport and supply heroin and illegal arms across multiple locations in Punjab. The network is believed to have cross-border connections, highlighting the international dimension of the crime.
An FIR has been lodged at PS Gate Hakima under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act. Police said that further probes are underway to uncover additional links and apprehend other members of the cartel.
DGP Yadav reiterated Punjab Police’s zero-tolerance approach toward drug trafficking and organized narco networks. He stated that continuous vigilance and prompt action are key to dismantling such criminal operations and ensuring the safety of citizens.
Authorities have appealed to the public to report any suspicious activities, emphasizing community cooperation as an essential element in combating the spread of drugs and illegal weapons in the state.
