Railways Deploys 84 Special Trains Nationwide to Aid Passengers Hit by IndiGo Flight Disruptions

New Delhi, December 6, 2025: The Indian Railways on Saturday announced an extensive nationwide response to the ongoing disruption caused by mass IndiGo flight cancellations, introducing 84 special trains across multiple zones to assist stranded travellers. These trains will operate 104 trips and were arranged within hours after officials assessed passenger traffic at key hubs, including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Patna and Howrah.

Dilip Kumar, Executive Director (Information & Publicity) of the Railway Board, said the number of additional services could increase depending on passenger load and real-time movement patterns. He added that all zones have been instructed to utilise every available resource—rolling stock, staff and operational capacity—to ensure safe and smooth travel for the thousands affected by flight disruptions.

Railway divisions have also begun spreading information to passengers at airports. The South Eastern Railway issued a public notice and requested the Airport Authority to display updates about the special trains for stranded flight passengers.

According to an official release, Western Railway will operate seven special services on special fares, linking key routes such as Mumbai Central–New Delhi, Mumbai Central–Bhiwani, Mumbai Central–Shakur Basti, Bandra Terminus–Durgapura, Valsad–Bilaspur, and two services between Sabarmati and Delhi, including one to Delhi Sarai Rohilla.

South Central Railway also announced four special trains to handle the sudden spike in passenger numbers triggered by IndiGo’s large-scale cancellations. Central Railway and Northern Railway have planned 14 and 10 special trains respectively, with officials reviewing these figures continuously to meet rising demand.

Other zones have released their schedules and operational details as the Railways intensifies its response to the travel crisis.

IndiGo has been struggling with widespread operational issues for five consecutive days, causing heavy cancellations, long delays and severe inconvenience to thousands of passengers. Many travellers also reported missing baggage amid the chaos.
