Dehradun, November 9, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development projects worth ₹8,260 crore during the silver jubilee celebrations of Uttarakhand’s formation. The projects, spread across multiple sectors including irrigation, renewable energy, drinking water, sports, skill development, and urban infrastructure, aim to strengthen the state’s growth momentum.
Addressing a large gathering at the Forest Research Institute in Dehradun, Modi hailed Uttarakhand as a “model of progress” and said the state has the potential to become the “spiritual capital of the world.” He noted that the region’s rich natural beauty, cultural heritage, and growing infrastructure make it ideal for eco-tourism, adventure tourism, and wellness initiatives.
Among the major projects inaugurated were the drinking water schemes under the AMRUT mission to ensure full coverage in 23 Dehradun zones, a new electrical sub-station in Pithoragarh, and multiple solar installations on government buildings. The Prime Minister also laid the foundation for the Song Dam project, which will supply 150 million liters of drinking water daily to Dehradun, and the Jamrani Multipurpose Dam in Nainital to enhance irrigation and power generation.
In the sports sector, he inaugurated an AstroTurf hockey stadium in Haldwani and announced a new Women’s Sports College in Champawat. Additionally, over ₹62 crore was directly transferred to the accounts of more than 28,000 farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
Modi highlighted the transformation of Uttarakhand’s economy since its creation 25 years ago, noting that the state’s budget, which once stood at ₹4,000 crore, has now crossed ₹1 lakh crore. He praised the state government for promoting sustainable development while preserving its ecological balance.
“Uttarakhand has shown how faith and development can walk hand in hand,” Modi said, adding that the state’s journey symbolizes India’s collective aspiration for growth and harmony.
