Dhuri (Sangrur), November 9, 2025: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday flagged off the first batch of buses carrying devotees to Amritsar under the Mukh Mantri Tirath Yatra Scheme. The initiative, dedicated to the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, aims to help elderly citizens visit major religious and historical sites free of cost.
Speaking at the event, CM Mann said the scheme, launched on October 29 from Bararwal village, was designed to promote social and religious harmony among Punjabis. “This is a humble effort to fulfill the long-cherished dreams of elderly citizens who wished to pay obeisance at sacred sites,” he said.
Devotees will visit Sri Harmandir Sahib, Durgiana Temple, Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, Jallianwala Bagh, the Partition Museum, and other prominent landmarks in Amritsar. The state government has arranged a free three-day, two-night stay, complete with AC transport, hotel accommodation, and meals.
Mann emphasized that the scheme is open to citizens of all religions, castes, and regions, and registration was conducted transparently through a draw. Each bus includes an attendant and a medical team for the safety and comfort of the pilgrims.
He urged devotees to participate in upcoming events commemorating the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to promoting communal harmony and Punjab’s spiritual legacy.
During the event, Mann also criticized opposition parties, alleging that the state Congress leadership had “lost balance” and was making “irrational statements” ahead of the Tarn Taran bypoll. He further accused the BJP of undermining democratic institutions, citing recent incidents involving EVMs and attempts to alter Panjab University’s status.
The Chief Minister accused the Centre of neglecting Punjab’s needs, saying the state has not yet received ₹1,600 crore in flood relief funds. He said the state government has stepped in with ₹74 crore worth of free seeds and ₹20,000 per acre in compensation for affected farmers — the highest ever provided by any state.
Mann reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding Punjab’s interests, calling BJP’s interference in institutions like BBMB and Panjab University “an attack on the state’s identity.”
