Edmonton (Rajeev Sharma): Alberta’s Minister of Forestry and Parks, Todd Loewen, is set to embark on a trade mission to Japan and South Korea from November 9 to 14 to promote the province’s forestry sector and expand international trade partnerships.
The mission aims to highlight Alberta’s world-class wood products and position the province as a dependable supplier of sustainable forest resources. Minister Loewen will participate in industry meetings, site tours, and trade networking events to reinforce Alberta’s reputation for quality and reliability in global markets.
“Alberta has a strong trade relationship with Japan and South Korea, which we would like to grow,” said Minister Loewen. “This government is proud to advocate for fair and open access to markets for the forestry sector. I look forward to strengthening relationships and standing up for Albertans.”
The initiative is part of Alberta’s broader effort to diversify its export markets and promote economic growth in the forestry industry. The province’s delegation will collaborate with several key partners, including the Alberta Forest Products Association, Canada Wood Group, the Wood Pellet Association of Canada, and British Columbia’s Forestry Innovation Investment, along with the Government of British Columbia.
Officials say the joint approach will help maximize exposure and create new opportunities for western Canadian manufacturers in the Asian market.
Alberta’s forestry industry contributes billions annually to the provincial economy, supporting thousands of jobs. By deepening trade ties with Japan and South Korea—two nations known for their strong demand for high-quality and sustainable wood products—the province aims to secure a more resilient and diversified future for its forestry sector.
