Suspended DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar Sent to Five-Day CBI Custody

Chandigarh, November 6, 2025 — The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been granted a five-day extension of custody for suspended Punjab DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar in connection with an ongoing corruption probe. The CBI court in Chandigarh approved the agency’s request after it argued that further interrogation was necessary to uncover key details in the case.

Bhullar, who was earlier arrested on October 16, faces serious allegations of corruption and possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Investigators claim to have recovered large amounts of cash, gold jewellery, and property-related documents from premises linked to him. The agency is now tracing financial transactions and communications to identify possible collaborators and the complete money trail.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has also registered a separate case against Bhullar for disproportionate assets, but its plea for custodial interrogation was dismissed until the CBI’s current remand period concludes. Once the CBI’s investigation phase ends, the Vigilance Bureau may seek his custody for further questioning.

Bhullar will be presented before the CBI court again on November 11, when the agency is expected to submit its progress report and seek further directions. The case continues to attract public and political attention as it involves one of Punjab’s senior police officials accused of large-scale corruption.
