Punjab Congress Chief Raja Warring, Family Receive Death Threats Ahead of Tarn Taran Bypoll

Tarn Taran — Political tensions in Punjab have intensified after Punjab Congress President and Ludhiana MP Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and his family allegedly received death threats amid the ongoing Tarn Taran Assembly bypoll campaign.

According to reports, the threat was also extended to senior Congress leader Rajbir Singh Bhullar, who filed a formal complaint with the Tarn Taran police. Bhullar stated that on October 31, he received a WhatsApp call from a foreign number, during which the caller issued a threat to kill Raja Warring, his family, and Bhullar himself.

Later the same day, Bhullar received a voice message reiterating the death threat. The message allegedly said that Raja Warring and his family “must be eliminated,” and warned that Bhullar too would not be spared.

Following the incident, Bhullar lodged a complaint with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Tarn Taran, seeking immediate protection for himself and other Congress leaders. Police have initiated an investigation and registered an FIR against Pakistan-based gangster and terrorist Harwinder Rinda, along with two unidentified individuals.

Authorities suspect that the threats may be connected to Raja Warring’s recent controversial remarks about late Home Minister Buta Singh, which sparked backlash from opposition parties and led to the registration of an FIR against him under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Warring had earlier voiced concerns over gangsters attempting to intimidate candidates during elections, a statement that now appears to have gained new significance in light of the threat case.

Police officials have yet to make a formal statement on the matter, but sources indicate that security around Warring and other senior Congress leaders has been tightened as investigations continue.
