Kangana Ranaut Appears Before Bathinda Court, Apologizes to Farmer Bebe Mahinder Kaur in Defamation Case

Bathinda (Punjab), October 27, 2025: Bollywood actress and Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut appeared before a Bathinda court on Monday in connection with a defamation case filed by elderly farmer Bebe Mahinder Kaur, whose image Kangana had shared during the 2020–21 farmers’ protest while comparing her to the Shaheen Bagh protester “Dadi.”

After the hearing, Kangana addressed the media and expressed regret over the controversy, stating that her comments were “misunderstood.” “I feel very good to be in Bathinda. I never intended to hurt anyone’s sentiments. There has been a misunderstanding — Bebe Mahinder Kaur became a victim of confusion. Still, I apologize to her, as I never meant any disrespect,” she said.

The actress clarified that she holds deep respect for farmers and their contribution to the nation, emphasizing that she never imagined her remark would escalate into a legal dispute.

In view of Kangana’s high-profile visit, the Bathinda district police made extensive security arrangements around the court complex to ensure smooth proceedings.

The case traces back to a 2020 social media post by Kangana, in which she allegedly referred to Bebe Mahinder Kaur as the Shaheen Bagh protester and claimed that such women were “available for ₹100.” The comment triggered widespread outrage among farmers’ unions and women’s groups, leading to the defamation suit being filed.
