Navi Mumbai, October 23, 2025: Host nation India Women have secured a spot in the Women’s ODI World Cup semifinals after defeating New Zealand by 53 runs (DLS method) in their round-robin clash on Thursday. With this win, India became the fourth and final team to qualify for the knockout stage, while New Zealand and Sri Lanka were eliminated from the tournament.
At the DY Patil Stadium, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl. India posted 340 runs for 3 wickets in 49 overs, their highest-ever World Cup score, despite one over being lost to rain. Smriti Mandhana scored 109, Pratika Rawal smashed 122, and Jemimah Rodrigues contributed 76 runs to the total.
Under the DLS method, New Zealand was set a revised target of 325 runs in 44 overs. However, the visitors lost 3 wickets for 59 runs. Amelia Kerr tried to steady the innings with 45 runs, but a collapse at 154 for 5 put New Zealand on the back foot. Brooke Halliday top-scored with 81 and Isabel Geary added 65, but the team could only manage 271 runs for 8 wickets, falling short of the target.
In India’s bowling performance, Kranti Gaud and Renuka Thakur took 2 wickets each, while Sneh Rana, Shre Charani, Deepti Sharma, and Pratika Rawal claimed 1 wicket each. For New Zealand, Amelia Kerr, Rosemary Mair, and Suzy Bates took 1 wicket each.
Along with India, Australia, England, and South Africa have already confirmed their places in the semifinals.
