Chandigarh, October 13, 2025 — The Punjab Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, on Monday approved a series of major policy measures aimed at strengthening the state’s infrastructure, agriculture, environmental sustainability, and law enforcement framework.
In a move to make housing more accessible, the Cabinet cleared a Group Housing Scheme designed to promote affordable housing and ensure improved living conditions for residents across urban and rural areas.
Focusing on environmental conservation, the government announced an extensive river cleaning drive across 85 identified sites to improve water quality and protect ecological balance. Officials confirmed that no rivers will be removed from the environmental protection list, reaffirming the state’s commitment to safeguarding its natural resources.
For the agricultural sector, the Cabinet approved a plan to remove sand deposits from farmlands to restore soil fertility and enhance crop yields. The initiative is expected to benefit farmers whose fields have been affected by sediment accumulation.
Law enforcement and prison management also received a significant push with directives for strict anti-drug operations inside jails, including the deployment of sniffer dogs to detect narcotics and prevent illegal trade within prison facilities.
Additionally, the Cabinet sanctioned a one-time extension for the Moga Project, ensuring its timely completion and furthering Punjab’s infrastructure development goals.
Officials said the decisions reflect Chief Minister Mann’s vision of a “clean, safe, and progressive Punjab,” where sustainable growth and citizen welfare remain at the forefront of governance.
