Punjab Police Foils Cross-Border Smuggling Attempt, Arms and Drugs Seized

Punjab DGP Establishes Four-Member Committee to Investigate Illegal Migration

Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): In a major success against transnational criminal activity, the Counter Intelligence Wing of Punjab Police in Amritsar has exposed a cross-border network involved in smuggling arms and narcotics. Two suspects — Gurjant Singh and Gurvel Singh, both hailing from Tarn Taran — have been taken into custody during the operation.

The crackdown, based on actionable intelligence, led to the recovery of 2.5 kilograms of heroin and five advanced pistols complete with magazines. Officials say the consignment had been smuggled from across the international border and was intended for distribution among criminal groups operating within Punjab.

Preliminary interrogation indicates that the accused were receiving directions from a smuggler operating out of Pakistan. The consignment of weapons was reportedly meant to bolster the capabilities of local gangs and fuel organized crime within the state.

A case has been registered at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar. Authorities have launched a deeper investigation to trace both the upstream and downstream links of this smuggling chain, aiming to dismantle the broader network involved.

This development comes amid increased efforts by law enforcement agencies to tackle the growing nexus between narcotics trafficking and illegal arms distribution. The Punjab Police, in a statement following the arrests, reiterated its firm stance against such threats, vowing to continue aggressive operations to neutralize narco-terror networks.

Further inquiries are underway, and officials have not ruled out more arrests in the coming days as the case unfolds.
