Chandigarh, October 3 – Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said the expansion of the Sabarkantha Dairy (Amul) plant in Rohtak will not only meet the growing milk demand of Haryana and North India but also generate large-scale employment opportunities.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the plant expansion, led by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, Saini praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” (prosperity through cooperation), which has given a new direction to India’s cooperative movement. He noted that the creation of the Ministry of Cooperation in 2021 and the launch of the National Cooperation Policy 2025 are landmark steps in this vision.
The Chief Minister emphasized that Amul is not just a dairy brand but the strength of India’s cooperative movement. He added that the Rohtak plant, which began operations in January 2015, has now seen an investment of ₹325 crore for its expansion. With this, the facility has become the largest plant in the country for producing curd, buttermilk, and yogurt. The expansion, he said, will give farmers better prices for their milk and create thousands of new jobs for youth.
Highlighting state initiatives, Saini said Haryana provides farmers with low-interest loans through cooperatives, while Hafed ensures timely supply of quality seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. He added that the Sugar Federation offers ₹400 per quintal for sugarcane and operates six cooperative sugar mills.
Saini further stated that Haryana ranks third in India for milk production, with per capita availability reaching 1,105 grams per day and an annual output of 122.2 lakh tonnes. Cooperative dairy societies have also extended accident insurance benefits to producers since 2015, with coverage increased to ₹10 lakh in 2023-24.
The Chief Minister noted additional welfare initiatives, including financial aid of ₹1,100 for marriages of daughters of cooperative members and scholarships of ₹2,100 to ₹5,100 for students scoring above 80 percent in classes 10 and 12.
Calling for greater unity in strengthening the cooperative movement, Saini thanked Amit Shah for inaugurating the expanded plant, describing the occasion as an inspiring moment for Haryana.
The event was attended by Union Ministers Rao Inderjit Singh and Krishan Pal Gurjar, Haryana Cooperation Minister Dr. Arvind Kumar Sharma, BJP state president Mohan Lal Kaushik, Gujarat Minister Bhikhu Parmar, MPs Dharambir Singh and Ramchandra Jangra, Sabarkantha Dairy Chairman Shamlabhai B. Patel, Amul Chairman Ashokbhai Choudhary, along with other dignitaries and officials.
