Rohtak/Chandigarh, October 3 – Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is steadily moving toward the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047. He emphasized that Khadi will play a vital role in this journey, acting as both a cultural legacy and an economic driver for millions of artisans across the country.
Speaking at the Khadi Artisans’ Festival held at Maharshi Dayanand University in Rohtak, Shah distributed modern toolkits, machines, and margin money worth ₹301 crore under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). He also virtually inaugurated several Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) facilities, including the newly constructed KVIC office and warehouse in Panchkula.
Shah noted that earlier governments had neglected Khadi, but Prime Minister Modi revived it as a powerful tool for economic empowerment. He highlighted that in the past 11 years of Modi’s governance, Khadi turnover has surged from ₹33,000 crore to ₹1.7 lakh crore, benefitting weavers and artisans directly instead of corporate capitalists. “Khadi is no longer just a symbol of freedom struggle; it is now Khadi for Nation and Khadi for Fashion,” Shah declared, urging citizens to adopt Khadi and strengthen the Swadeshi movement.
Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini, who attended the event, said Khadi has become a powerful medium of Atmanirbhar Bharat. He praised Prime Minister Modi’s vision, noting that Khadi products are rapidly moving from “local to global” and creating an international identity for Indian artisans. Saini also stated that by 2047, Haryana aims to become a $1 trillion economy, with Khadi and MSMEs playing a key role.
The Chief Minister further underlined the state’s commitment to cooperative growth, pointing to the National Cooperative Policy-2025, which places rural communities, farmers, women, Dalits, and tribals at its core. He said this policy will ensure transparency, technology adoption, and equal opportunities for cooperative units.
Khadi and Village Industries Commission Chairman Manoj Kumar added that Khadi is not only a symbol of tradition but also a source of employment and empowerment for rural India, especially women. He stressed that linking Khadi with cooperation will strengthen India’s socio-economic framework.
The event was attended by Union Ministers Rao Inderjit Singh and Krishan Pal Gurjar, Haryana Cooperation Minister Dr. Arvind Kumar Sharma, BJP State President Mohan Lal Kaushik, MPs Dharambir Singh and Ramchandra Jangra, along with several dignitaries and officials.
