Ottawa (Rajeev Sharma): The Canadian government has officially listed the Bishnoi gang as a terrorist organization under its criminal code, enabling authorities to take stringent action against the group. Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree announced the move, emphasizing that violence and extremist activities have no place in Canada.
The designation allows Canadian authorities to seize or freeze the gang’s assets, vehicles, and financial resources within the country. It also provides a legal framework for restricting the group’s travel, recruitment, and influence.
“Every person in Canada has the right to feel safe in their home and community. Specific communities have been targeted by the Bishnoi Gang for terror, violence, and intimidation. This listing gives us stronger tools to confront and stop their crimes,” Anandasangaree said.
The government clarified that any dealings with or support for the Bishnoi gang by Canadian citizens—whether domestically or abroad—will now be considered a criminal offense. Immigration and border authorities will also use the designation to block the gang’s activities and entry into Canada.
Originating from India, the Bishnoi gang has reportedly been involved in organized crime and violent activities internationally, including in Canada. The government’s action aims to curb the gang’s influence and ensure the safety of communities across the country.
