Rao Narbir Singh Urges Citizens to Nurture Saplings Like Children

Chandigarh, September 27: Haryana’s Environment and Forest Minister Rao Narbir Singh on Friday called upon people to not only plant trees but also take responsibility for their care, stressing that saplings should be nurtured like one’s own children.

He was speaking at a plantation drive held in village Bhondsi, Gurugram, organized jointly by the Forest and Wildlife Department and ISKCON. Singh, along with villagers, planted saplings during the program, which was also attended by Sohna MLA Tejpal Tanwar.

Addressing the gathering, the minister highlighted that trees are vital companions of human life, and their preservation is essential for a healthy environment and a secure future. Expressing concern, he said that poor environmental conditions undermine even strong economic progress. He noted that air quality index (AQI) remains normal for only two months during the monsoon, while pollution impacts health and environment for the remaining 9–10 months.

Singh also urged citizens to avoid using polythene, pointing out that waterlogging in urban areas is primarily caused by clogged sewer lines due to plastic waste. He emphasized that reducing polythene use and adopting tree plantation as a way of life are crucial steps toward ensuring cleaner, greener cities.
