National Times Bureau (Rajeev Sharma)— French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday said that U.S. President Donald Trump could earn the Nobel Peace Prize if he takes decisive action to end the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Speaking to a French television channel in New York, Macron highlighted that Trump has the leverage to influence Israel due to America’s role as the primary supplier of weapons and military equipment.
“There is one person who can do something about this, and that is the President of the United States,” Macron said. “America has this power because we do not supply the equipment that enables the war in Gaza. The U.S. does.”
Macron urged Trump to use this influence to press Israel to halt military operations, holding the U.S. accountable for its continued arms supply in the region.
The remarks come amid growing international recognition for Palestine. To date, 157 of the 193 United Nations member states, representing 81 percent of the global community, have acknowledged Palestine as a sovereign state. It also enjoys recognition from Catholic Church authorities, including the Holy See and Vatican City, and holds non-member observer status at the UN.
This international acknowledgment strengthens Palestine’s position globally, enhances its ability to hold Israeli authorities accountable, and increases pressure on Western nations to advance a two-state solution.
