New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): A tragic mishap was reported from central Delhi’s Mandir Marg area when a Delhi Police PCR van accidentally ran over a man, leading to his death on the spot.
According to initial findings, the driver of the police vehicle mistakenly accelerated while maneuvering the van near a roadside ramp. The sudden movement caused the van to climb onto the pavement, striking a passerby who could not escape in time.
Senior officials rushed to the site soon after the incident. The deceased has not yet been officially identified, while his body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Additional DCP New Delhi, Hukma Ram, confirmed the accident and assured that due legal proceedings were being followed. “This was an unfortunate accident. Necessary legal action is being taken, and the family of the deceased will be provided assistance and compensation. CCTV footage is being examined to establish the exact sequence of events,” he said.
Police teams remained at the location late into the evening to record statements and reconstruct the accident. The incident has sparked discussions on traffic safety and the handling of police vehicles in crowded areas.
