National Times Bureau :- In a major crackdown on cross-border smuggling, Punjab Police seized a large cache of arms and ammunition near the international border. Acting on specific intelligence, security teams recovered 27 pistols along with 470 live cartridges in a late-night operation this week.
Officials confirmed that the weapons were being smuggled across the border, allegedly with the involvement of international networks. The consignment was intercepted before it could reach its intended recipients inside Punjab.
Senior police officers stated that the recovery is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terror and drug networks that use arms smuggling to fuel unrest in the state. Investigations are underway to identify local handlers and the foreign links behind the supply.
This development has raised fresh concerns about the use of Punjab’s border routes for illegal trafficking. Security agencies have intensified search operations in vulnerable areas to prevent further attempts.
Authorities said that the seizure not only foiled a major smuggling bid but also averted a potential security threat. Further arrests and recoveries are expected as the probe continues.
