Nepal Erupts in Violence Over Social Media Ban: 16 Dead, Over 100 Injured as Protests Spread Across Major Cities

National Times Bureau :- Massive anti-corruption and anti-governance protests triggered by a government-imposed social media ban have engulfed Nepal, leaving at least 16 people dead and more than 100 injured. The unrest, which began in Kathmandu, has now spread to Pokhara, Butwal, Chitwan, Nepalgunj, and Biratnagar. According to the Health Ministry, hospitals in the capital are struggling with a severe shortage of resources as casualties continue to rise. Protesters, largely from the Gen Z demographic, are reportedly bypassing the ban using VPNs to coordinate their movement. In response, two to three platoons of the Nepal Army have been deployed around the Parliament area to control the escalating situation.
