Punjab Govt Sets Safety Protocols as Schools, Colleges Reopen

Chandigarh(Gurpreet Singh): Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Thursday issued fresh instructions regarding the reopening of educational institutions in Punjab. He said that all government, private, and aided schools, along with colleges and universities, would function normally from tomorrow, except in places where flood-related damage makes it unsafe. In such cases, the Deputy Commissioner of the district will take the final call on closures.

Highlighting student safety as the top priority, Bains directed private school authorities to thoroughly assess their campuses and classrooms before resuming classes. He underlined that it is the duty of managements to ensure a secure environment for both children and staff.

Government Schools Closed for Students on Sept 8

The minister also announced that all government schools will remain shut for students on September 8. Teachers, however, have been instructed to report to schools to participate in cleaning and restoration work. The drive will be carried out with the support of local panchayats, municipal bodies, and School Management Committees.

Further, teachers will inspect the condition of classrooms and infrastructure. Any faults or risks detected during the inspection must be reported without delay to the Deputy Commissioner and district engineering teams.

Classes to Resume on Sept 9

After the cleaning and inspection exercise, government schools will reopen for students on September 9, ensuring that teaching activities can continue in safe conditions.

Officials stated that these measures are being implemented to restore normalcy in the education sector while prioritizing safety in areas that have recently faced heavy flooding.
