Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): With heavy rains lashing Punjab for the second straight day, the state government has extended its precautionary measures to higher education institutions. All universities, colleges, and polytechnic institutes will remain closed until September 3, 2025, according to an announcement made by Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains.
Taking to X, Bains underlined that student safety is paramount in the wake of the worsening weather conditions. He instructed educational authorities to ensure proper care of hostel residents and to make necessary arrangements for their security and well-being during the closure.
The minister further urged citizens and students to adhere to advisories issued by district administrations and avoid unnecessary movement in rain-affected areas.
This order comes on the heels of earlier directives suspending classes in schools statewide. Continuous downpours have already hampered daily activities and heightened the risk of flooding in several districts, prompting authorities to maintain high alert.
