Air India Flight to Indore Makes Emergency Return to Delhi After Engine Fire Alert

New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): An Indore-bound Air India flight was forced to make an emergency return to Delhi on Sunday morning after the cockpit crew received a warning of a possible fire in one of the aircraft’s engines shortly after takeoff.

Flight AI2913, which departed from Delhi en route to Indore, was in the air for only a short time when a fire indication from the right engine appeared on the cockpit control panel, prompting the crew to take immediate safety measures.

According to a statement from the airline, the pilots acted swiftly by shutting down the affected engine and initiating a return to the departure airport, ensuring a safe landing back in Delhi. Emergency protocols were followed, and no injuries were reported among the passengers or crew.

“All passengers were deboarded safely and have been re-accommodated on another aircraft to complete their journey,” an Air India spokesperson confirmed. “The aircraft involved has been grounded for a detailed technical inspection.”

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India’s air safety regulator, has been notified, and an investigation is expected to follow to determine the precise cause of the engine alert.

Air India expressed regret over the disruption, emphasizing that passenger safety remains its highest priority. “We understand the inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate our passengers’ patience and cooperation,” the airline added.

The incident comes just weeks after another Air India Express flight, headed for Doha from Calicut, had to turn back mid-air due to a technical snag — raising broader concerns about operational safety, although no injuries occurred in either case.

The DGCA is likely to closely review the incident to ensure compliance with safety norms and maintenance protocols.
