SBS Nagar, August 11, 2025: In a major security breakthrough ahead of Independence Day, Punjab’s Counter-Intelligence unit in Jalandhar, working with SBS Nagar Police, has dismantled a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module allegedly directed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The joint operation, conducted in Tonk and Jaipur districts of Rajasthan, led to the arrest of five operatives linked to the banned outfit. Investigators say the network was being coordinated by foreign-based handlers Mannu Agwan, Gopi Nawashehria, and Zeeshan Akhtar, under the leadership of Pakistan-based BKI chief Harwinder Singh Rinda.
Intelligence inputs revealed the group’s involvement in a recent attack attempt on a liquor shop in SBS Nagar and plans for further strikes during the Independence Day period. During the crackdown, one suspect allegedly opened fire on police personnel. He was injured in retaliatory fire and is now receiving treatment at Civil Hospital, SBS Nagar.
Police recovered one 86P hand grenade, a .30 bore pistol, two live cartridges, and two empty shells from the accused. A case has been registered at Police Station City Nawanshahr under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Explosive Substances Act.
Officials hailed the bust as a significant blow to cross-border terror coordination and a preventive measure against possible large-scale attacks in Punjab.
