National Times Bureau :- Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has launched a new phase in the fight against cancer. During a program in Sangrur, he flagged off 12 Cancer Care buses. These buses will provide medical tests and treatment to people. He said that the trains which used to run from Bathinda to Bikaner were known as the “Cancer Express” because Bikaner has a cancer hospital where many people from Punjab used to go for treatment.
CM Mann said that about 70 to 80 percent of the patients on that train were cancer patients. The Malwa belt is especially affected by cancer, as people used to apply banned pesticides on crops. Previous governments ignored the issue and failed to stop people from using such harmful sprays. These chemicals entered our bodies through grains, pulses, and corn.
The Chief Minister added that when he was a Member of Parliament, he tried to raise awareness among people to adopt organic farming and avoid polluting air and water. Punjab’s people gave him the huge responsibility by electing him to 92 seats. Since then, the government has been working continuously. They have opened 881 Aam Aadmi Clinics and plan to open 200 more. Hospitals are being upgraded, and nursing, medical, and homeopathy colleges are being established.
Targeting Shiromani Akali Dal
During the event, CM Mann also targeted the Shiromani Akali Dal. He said that SAD ruled Punjab from 2007 to 2017. He referred to Sukhbir Badal’s claim that wherever you look, Badal Sahib has done work. But if work was done, why didn’t they get votes? He accused them of pushing the youth towards drugs.
Sharp Remark on Majithia
CM Mann further remarked that Badal Sahib had told Sukhbir to control his brother-in-law or else he would harm him. But Sukhbir failed to control him and now he is troubled. The Chief Minister said the truth of wise words is realized only later. He pointed out that in 2009, around 1,000 youth were involved in drug abuse, but by 2015 this number rose to 15-20 lakh. Everyone knows who is behind this menace.
