Ferozepur, July 25, 2025 — In a significant breakthrough in the fight against cross-border drug trafficking, the Ferozepur Police have unearthed a sophisticated narco-hawala network, recovering 15 kilograms of heroin in a covert intelligence-led operation.
The successful raid was carried out by PS Ghall Khurd, which led to the arrest of a key accused, Ramesh Kumar alias Mechi, a known operative in the drug trade. Acting on precise intelligence inputs, the police team swiftly moved in, leading to the dismantling of what appears to be a well-organised trans-border smuggling syndicate.
An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and investigations are now focused on tracing the full extent of the cartel’s network. Special emphasis is being placed on identifying the hawala operators who were instrumental in managing the drug proceeds and financing the smuggling operations.
Authorities believe the syndicate has deep linkages across state and international borders. Police teams are actively pursuing both forward and backward linkages to uncover the entire chain of supply and distribution.
The Punjab Police, under its intensified campaign against drugs, reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling smuggling operations, crippling drug-financing systems, and ensuring the vision of a drug-free Punjab becomes a reality.
