Edmonton (Rajeev Sharma): Alberta’s economy continues its upward momentum, with the province adding over 51,000 full-time jobs in June 2025, according to the latest Labour Force Survey. Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration, Joseph Schow, released an official statement on Friday highlighting the impressive employment gains and Alberta’s strengthening economic position.
“Alberta is leading Canada in job growth,” said Minister Schow. “With changes in part-time jobs included, we’re seeing a net increase of 30,000 jobs across the province. This is welcome news and further proof that our economic strategy is delivering results.”
The significant surge in full-time employment contributed to a drop in Alberta’s unemployment rate, which now sits at 6.8 per cent — slightly below the national rate of 6.9 per cent. Youth unemployment also saw a decline, falling from 17.2 per cent to 16.4 per cent, signaling that more young Albertans are finding opportunities to kickstart their careers.
Minister Schow emphasized that while challenges remain, Alberta is on the right path: “More Albertans are getting the paycheques they need to move forward. We’re proud that weekly earnings in Alberta are the highest in the country — 2.4 per cent above the next highest province, and five per cent higher than the national average.”
He further credited the provincial government’s pro-growth policies for the robust job creation numbers. “We’ve been focused on cutting red tape, lowering corporate taxes, boosting labour mobility, and eliminating interprovincial trade barriers,” Schow said. “This has created an environment where businesses thrive and jobs are created.”
As Alberta attracts more investment and continues to diversify its economy, the government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the province remains a top destination for living, working, and doing business.
