311 More Indians Brought Back from Iran Under Operation Sindhu as Conflict Escalates

New Delhi, June 22, 2025 — As tensions between Israel and Iran continue to rise, India’s evacuation drive Operation Sindhu remains in full force, bringing home another batch of 311 Indian nationals from the Iranian city of Mashhad on Saturday.

This marks the fourth evacuation flight in the past five days, raising the total number of Indians safely brought back from Iran to 1,428. The special flight landed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport around 4:30 PM, where officials from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), medical teams, and support staff were stationed to receive the evacuees.

Most of those on board were students and professionals who had been residing in Iran when hostilities intensified following the recent US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites. The Indian Embassy in Tehran and the consulate in Mashhad have worked round the clock to coordinate evacuations amid the volatile security situation.

Following diplomatic backchannel efforts, Iran permitted the temporary reopening of its airspace to facilitate humanitarian evacuations, allowing India to operate chartered flights in and out of the country. Additional routes via Armenia, Turkmenistan, Jordan, and Egypt have also been activated for potential land-based evacuations.

The Indian government has made it clear that Operation Sindhu will continue until every citizen in distress is accounted for and brought home. Officials have assured that more evacuation flights are scheduled in the coming days as the conflict shows no signs of de-escalation.

India’s swift and structured response has drawn praise from several quarters, underlining the government’s growing capability to safeguard its citizens during global emergencies.
