Amritsar to Observe Citywide Blackout Drill Tonight from 8 PM to 8:30 PM

Amritsar (National Times): The District Administration of Amritsar has announced a 30-minute citywide blackout drill to be held this evening from 8:00 PM to 8:30 PM, urging citizens to participate in the exercise to test emergency preparedness and promote energy awareness.

In a message issued by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Amritsar, residents were informed that power feeders will be centrally switched off across most locations in the city during the half-hour blackout period. However, critical and essential services, rural areas, the airport, and the Walled City area will remain exempt from the central power cut.

The DC further requested that residents in exempted areas voluntarily switch off all lights during the drill to support the initiative. Additionally, all external lights and commercial signboards must be turned off, and generators or inverters should not be used to power lights during this time.

“This is just a drill, but you are requested to take it seriously and follow the government instructions,” the official statement read. “Enforcement agencies will be on duty during this time.”

The administration emphasized that the blackout is a precautionary exercise aimed at strengthening the district’s readiness for emergency scenarios. It also serves as a symbolic gesture to encourage energy conservation and public cooperation during crises.

Citizens are encouraged to plan accordingly and participate in the drill by ensuring all non-essential electrical appliances and lights are turned off during the designated window.
