Jalandhar (National Times): In a dramatic and decisive step, the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has carried out a corruption raid on its own legislator, Jalandhar (Central) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Raman Arora, marking one of the most high-profile anti-corruption actions since the AAP came to power in the state.
According to initial reports, Arora was allegedly involved in a racket where false notices were issued to residents of Jalandhar through the Municipal Corporation. These notices, often without any legitimate basis, created panic and distress among citizens. It is alleged that Arora then took money from the victims in return for getting those notices cancelled, effectively running an extortion scheme under the guise of officialdom.
The Mann government, which has consistently pitched its governance model on the foundation of transparency and accountability, acted swiftly on the allegations. Raids were conducted at Arora’s premises and linked locations to gather evidence.
