New Delhi, May 17, 2025 — In a rare admission, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has confirmed that Indian ballistic missiles struck Nur Khan Airbase and several other locations inside Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, India’s military response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
Speaking at a public ceremony at the Pakistan Monument on Friday, Sharif revealed that he was woken up at 2:30 AM on May 10 by Army Chief General Asim Munir, who informed him of the Indian missile strikes. The strikes, part of a larger coordinated operation, were previously denied by Pakistani authorities.
“At around 2:30 AM on May 10, General Syed Asim Munir called me on the secure line and informed me that India’s ballistic missiles had hit Nur Khan Airbase and other areas,” Sharif said, as reported by Geo News. He added that Pakistan’s Air Force had responded using homegrown technology and Chinese fighter jets.
The admission directly contradicts Pakistan’s earlier denials and serves as the first official acknowledgment of the damage caused by India’s deep-strike campaign. The Indian government launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 civilians.
In response to Sharif’s remarks, BJP leader Amit Malviya highlighted the scale and precision of India’s operation. Sharing a post on X, Malviya wrote: “Let that sink in — the Prime Minister was woken up in the middle of the night with news of strikes deep inside Pakistan. This speaks volumes about the scale, precision, and boldness of #OperationSindoor.”
The Indian Armed Forces reportedly targeted and neutralized terror infrastructure belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen, killing over 100 terrorists. The operation also damaged radar stations, communication hubs, and airfields across 11 Pakistani airbases.
Following Pakistan’s retaliation with cross-border shelling and drone attacks, India responded with escalated strikes before both countries agreed to a cessation of hostilities on May 10.
Sharif’s admission is being viewed as a moment of strategic validation for India, with experts noting that Pakistan’s public acknowledgment of such strikes is extremely rare and highlights the effectiveness and reach of India’s military capabilities.
