Amritsar (National Times): In the wake of India’s ‘Operation Sindoor,’ which targeted nine terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and PoK, schools in Punjab’s Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Ferozepur, and Amritsar districts have been closed for at least 72 hours as a precautionary measure. The air strikes, carried out at 1:30 am on Wednesday in Bahawalpur, Muridke, Bagh, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad, reportedly killed 30 individuals and have heightened tensions along the India-Pakistan border.
Security has been significantly ramped up in Punjab and Haryana. Chandigarh and Amritsar’s Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport have suspended operations until further notice, with all flights canceled until 10 am. Airlines, including IndiGo, have urged passengers to verify flight statuses. Enhanced security protocols are in place at the Amritsar airport, and a drone flight ban has been enforced in Ambala.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) is conducting meticulous luggage checks at Ambala Cantt railway station, inspecting both passengers’ bags and items on trains. The measures follow India’s decisive military action against terror infrastructure, prompted by recent attacks, including one in Pahalgam two weeks ago.
Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and residents have been advised to stay alert. Updates on school closures, airport reopenings, and further security measures will be provided as developments unfold.
