Three Soldiers Killed After Army Truck Falls Into Gorge in J&K’s Ramban

Ramban (Jammu and Kashmir), May 4 — In a tragic accident, three Indian Army personnel lost their lives on Sunday after the truck they were travelling in plunged around 500 metres into a gorge near Battery Chashma in Ramban district. The vehicle was part of an army convoy when the driver reportedly lost control, leading to the fatal fall.

According to Jammu and Kashmir Police, the incident occurred when the army vehicle veered off the road and tumbled into the deep gorge. Confirming the deaths, Ramban Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulbir Singh called it a “very unfortunate incident” and noted that all three personnel in the vehicle had died.

“Driver of an Army vehicle, which was part of a convoy, lost control of the vehicle, and it rolled down a gorge about 500 metres below. Three people were in the vehicle… Unfortunately, all three of them died,” SSP Singh told ANI. He added that teams from the Police, Quick Reaction Team (QRT), Army, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) swiftly responded and were actively engaged in retrieving the bodies from the crash site.

Initial investigations indicate that a mechanical failure may have been the cause. SSP Singh noted that a nut bolt—likely from the steering wheel—was found at the accident site, suggesting a possible steering malfunction. “It seems the driver lost control of the steering wheel due to that nut bolt. However, things will be clear only after a detailed investigation,” he said.

Authorities are continuing the recovery operation while further details are awaited.
