NIA Chief Reviews Pahalgam Terror Attack Probe Amid Rising India-Pakistan Tensions

National Times Bureau: National Investigation Agency (NIA) Director General Sadanand Date visited Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, to assess the ongoing investigation into the April 22 terror attack that claimed 26 lives, including 25 Indian tourists and one Nepali national.

The NIA is employing advanced 3D mapping technology to reconstruct the crime scene at Baisaran meadow, based on eyewitness accounts.   Investigators have recorded statements from survivors and locals present during the attack.

The attack, one of the deadliest in the region since 2008, has been linked to The Resistance Front (TRF), a group believed to be affiliated with Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.   Indian authorities have released sketches of three suspects: Adil Hussain Thoker from Anantnag, and two Pakistani nationals, Ali Bhai (also known as Talha Bhai) and Hashim Musa (also known as Suleiman).

In response to the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has granted the Indian Armed Forces “complete operational freedom” to address the situation.   Diplomatic tensions have escalated, with India suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and expelling Pakistani diplomats.   Pakistan has denied involvement and warned of potential Indian military action.

The United States has urged both nations to de-escalate tensions and has called for Pakistan’s cooperation in the investigation.
