BSF Constable Still Held in Pakistan as Efforts for Release Continue

BSF Constable Detained by Pakistan Rangers After Accidental Border Crossing; Release Talks Underway

Ferozepur (National Times): BSF constable Purnab Kumar Shaw remains in Pakistan’s custody for the fifth straight day, with Islamabad yet to respond to India’s multiple appeals for his return. Shaw had inadvertently crossed the international border near Ferozepur, Punjab, on April 23.

A senior BSF official confirmed that since Wednesday afternoon, there has been no positive development from the Pakistan side despite repeated diplomatic and military efforts.

Meanwhile, Shaw’s wife, Rajani, who is pregnant, announced on Sunday that she, along with her son and other relatives, will travel to Ferozepur to seek information directly from BSF officials. The family plans to fly to Chandigarh on Monday before heading to Ferozepur.

Expressing her anguish, Rajani said, “Today is the fifth day, and we have no update on his return. I’m under immense stress.”

Efforts to resolve the situation through flag meetings between the BSF and Pakistan Rangers have so far been unsuccessful. During the latest meeting on Friday, Pakistani officials stated they were awaiting further instructions from higher authorities, leading to another inconclusive outcome.

According to BSF sources, Shaw had inadvertently crossed the border while escorting farmers and resting under a tree close to the boundary line. He was serving with the 182nd Battalion deployed along the Ferozepur border.
