Toronto (National Times Bureau): A police-involved shooting outside Toronto Pearson International Airport’s Terminal 1 on April 24, 2025, resulted in the death of a 30-year-old man. The incident occurred just before 7 a.m. when Peel Regional Police responded to a report of a man in distress in an SUV near the terminal.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the man allegedly brandished a firearm, prompting three officers to discharge their weapons. Despite being transported to the hospital, the man succumbed to his injuries. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the exchange.
The Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which handles incidents involving police that lead to death or serious injury, has assumed control of the investigation. The SIU is actively seeking witnesses to provide additional information.
The incident led to significant disruptions at the airport, including the closure of Highway 409 access to Terminal 1, causing delays for travelers during the busy morning period. Authorities assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to safety and that the situation was isolated.
As the investigation continues, authorities have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
