New Delhi, April 24, 2025 — A day after the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 innocent lives, tensions between India and Pakistan escalated as Pakistani forces opened unprovoked fire along the Line of Control (LoC). Indian forces responded swiftly and forcefully, marking a significant spike in hostilities following the massacre of tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baisaran Valley.
The exchange of fire occurred amid heightened alert across border regions. Indian Army officials confirmed that retaliatory action was “effective and proportionate,” with no casualties reported on the Indian side so far. This comes as Pakistan faces increasing diplomatic and strategic pressure after the attack, which has been linked to terror groups with a history of shelter in Pakistan.
The terror strike, one of the deadliest in Kashmir in recent years, prompted India to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, shut the Attari border check post, expel Pakistani military attachés, and revoke visas for Pakistani nationals. The Indian government is also actively pursuing the attackers with joint operations involving local police and central agencies.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have vowed to bring every perpetrator to justice. Meanwhile, Pakistan has denied any involvement in the attack and accused India of overreaction, even as it continues to provoke along the LoC.
Security experts view the cross-border firing as a tactic by Pakistan to distract from the global backlash following the attack. Indian agencies remain on high alert amid fears of further escalations.
