Gurdaspur/Amritsar (National Times): The Kartarpur Corridor at Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district continues to facilitate pilgrim traffic to the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan, even as India and Pakistan have suspended operations at the Attari Integrated Check Post, officials confirmed.
“Pilgrims wishing to travel through the corridor to visit the gurdwara can do so. As of now, the corridor is open,” said Sohail Qasim Mir, Senior Superintendent of Police, Batala, in an interview with The Indian Express.
Wednesday evening’s announcement by India’s Ministry of External Affairs imposed new restrictions on bilateral engagement in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, including shutting the Attari border crossing and revoking SAARC visa exemptions for Pakistanis.
The visa‑free Kartarpur Corridor, inaugurated on November 9, 2019, links Gurdwara Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur—just 4.7 km across the border. Indian citizens and OCI cardholders may visit the shrine without a visa.
On average, 400 pilgrims traverse the route each day, well below its 5,000‑pilgrim capacity. Travelers must pre‑register online at prakashpurb550.mha.gov.in, secure an Electronic Travel Authorisation, carry a valid Indian passport, and adhere to luggage and stay restrictions—no overnight stays or travel beyond the gurdwara complex.
