Chandigarh, April 13 — Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann lashed out at Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa on Sunday, accusing him of spreading panic with false claims that 50 bombs had been smuggled into the state. Mann alleged that Bajwa’s decades-old family ties with Pakistani operatives were the only possible source of such “baseless” information, as intelligence agencies have reported no such threat.
Mann dismissed Bajwa’s statement—where the Congress leader claimed that 18 bombs had already exploded while 32 more remained—as “irrational” and lacking any backing from state or central intelligence. “If Bajwa knows this, he must have heard it from friends across the border. There are no inputs with our agencies,” said the Chief Minister, calling the remarks dangerous and politically motivated.
He warned that Bajwa would be held accountable unless he disclosed the source of his information. “Either he provides proof to the police or he should be ready to face action,” Mann said. He further questioned whether Bajwa was waiting for an actual attack to exploit it for political gain.
Calling the remarks “unpatriotic” and “irresponsible,” Mann urged the Congress high command to take disciplinary action against Bajwa. “Spreading terror with false claims is an unpardonable crime,” the CM said. He also added that any attempts to disturb Punjab’s hard-earned peace would not be tolerated under his administration.
