CM Saini Slams Congress on Power Issues, Touts Major Progress Ahead of PM’s April 14 Visit

Says opposition leaders misleading people; challenges Hooda and Surjewala to debate facts publicly

Chandigarh, April 8 – Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini came down hard on the Congress, accusing the opposition of spreading lies about electricity bills and failing to acknowledge the current government’s progress. Addressing a press conference in Hisar, Saini highlighted how the state’s power situation has improved significantly compared to the Congress era.

He claimed that during Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s tenure as CM and Randeep Singh Surjewala as power minister, power cuts were rampant and people suffered. In contrast, the current government has delivered on its promise of 24-hour electricity without burdening people with heavy bills.

To support his claims, Saini presented a comparison of electricity tariffs. In 2013–14, consumers paid up to ₹1316 for 300 units, but now they pay only ₹1230. For 25 units, the charge has dropped from ₹200 to ₹55. He asserted that the state has also reduced the debt on power companies and plans to make it zero by 2027.

Saini challenged both Hooda and Surjewala to step out and speak to the public based on facts, not rhetoric. He said the opposition is rattled by the pace of development under BJP’s rule and is resorting to falsehoods to mislead citizens.

The CM also spotlighted the Centre’s PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, under which over 15,000 homes in Haryana have received rooftop solar panels. Households with 2 kW connections can reduce their power bills to zero.

Looking ahead to April 14, Saini said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will gift two major projects to Haryana: the foundation stone for an 800 MW supercritical thermal unit worth ₹7272 crore in Yamunanagar and the inauguration of air services and terminal building at Maharaja Agrasen Airport, Hisar. Flights to Ayodhya will commence twice a week, with frequency expected to increase based on bookings.

He brushed aside criticism from Congress MP Jai Prakash over the airport project, urging him to “Google the difference between aerodrome and airport.” Saini stressed that the airport will not only boost religious tourism but also create jobs and attract investments.

On the Waqf Amendment Bill, Saini defended the legislation, saying it benefits all communities and accused the Congress of introducing the original law in haste for vote-bank politics. He pointed out that Congress had failed miserably in municipal and Delhi elections.

Highlighting future developments, Saini announced that approvals for the Ambala airport are in the pipeline, while major projects like Deen Dayal Medical University and elevated railway tracks in Kurukshetra are ready for inauguration. He also revealed plans to create a new “Department of the Future” to design a 20-year development roadmap for Haryana.
