Nadda Clarifies Waqf Law Intent, Emphasizes BJP’s Growth on Foundation Day

New Delhi, April 6, 2025 — BJP President JP Nadda clarified on Sunday that the central government does not seek control over Waqf Boards but only aims to ensure lawful management that benefits the Muslim community through education, healthcare, and employment.

Speaking at the BJP headquarters in Delhi during the party’s 46th foundation day celebrations, Nadda addressed concerns arising from the recently passed Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. He emphasized that the new law demands accountability and adherence to rules from those overseeing Waqf properties.

“We do not seek to control the Waqf Board,” Nadda said. “We only ask that those operating it follow the rules. The properties and funds should benefit the Muslim community through education, healthcare, and job creation.”

He drew parallels to Muslim-majority countries like Turkey, noting that even they brought Waqf properties under regulation to ensure proper use.

The BJP’s foundation day was marked by events across India, including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana. In Delhi, Nadda hoisted the party flag and delivered a spirited address attended by senior leaders, MPs, and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

Reflecting on the BJP’s evolution from its roots in the Bharatiya Jan Sangh in 1951, Nadda said the party had never deviated from its ideological path. He credited stalwarts like Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Deendayal Upadhyay, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and LK Advani for shaping the party’s trajectory.

“Today we have 240 Lok Sabha members, 98 in the Rajya Sabha, and over 1,600 MLAs nationwide,” Nadda said. “Our membership has crossed 13.5 crore, with over 10 lakh active workers.”

Despite political attacks, Nadda added, “Even our opponents in Parliament admit that we are the world’s largest political party. They mock us but also recognize our strength.”
