Ferozepur, March 31, 2025 – The Excise Department has completed the online allotment of liquor shops for the 2025-26 financial year in Ferozepur district. Assistant Commissioner of Excise, Randhir Singh, announced that the district has been divided into three excise groups, with all contracts awarded digitally.
The Ferozepur City Liquor Group was allotted to Ferozepur Liquor Firm for ₹59.22 crore, the Ferozepur Rural (CAT) Group to Universal Liquor for ₹55.55 crore, and the Jhirak-Jhugian Group for ₹52.52 crore. The total excise revenue for the district is set at ₹167.31 crore, marking an increase of ₹29.55 crore from the previous year.
Strict Action Against Illicit Liquor
Authorities are intensifying efforts to curb the illegal liquor trade. Last year, the Excise Department, in coordination with the police, seized:
9,18,695 liters of liquor
9,657 liters of illicit liquor
3,349 bottles of English liquor
3,436 bottles of beer
103 bottles of country liquor
A total of 97 cases were registered under the Excise Act.
Excise Commissioner Varun Rujam emphasized the Punjab government’s commitment to boosting revenue collection. Deputy Commissioner Excise, Pawanjit Singh, reported a 21.50% revenue increase from the latest allotment process. Excise Officer Rajneesh Batra confirmed that Ferozepur district has 222 licensed liquor vends, with contractors having the option to open model or beer shops under the excise policy.
Public Advisory: Beware of Illicit Liquor
Officials urged residents to buy alcohol only from authorized shops to prevent health hazards linked to illicit liquor. The administration warned that consuming illegal alcohol can be fatal and assured strict action against violators. Public cooperation is encouraged to ensure compliance with legal provisions.
