Moscow, March 14, 2025 – Russian President Vladimir Putin has thanked global leaders, including US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for their efforts to end the Ukraine conflict. Putin made the remarks on Thursday while confirming Russia’s willingness to discuss a ceasefire, but with certain conditions.
“We agree with the proposals to stop hostilities,” Putin said. “But our position is that this ceasefire should lead to long-term peace and eliminate the initial causes of this crisis.”
Putin acknowledged the diplomatic efforts by leaders of China, Brazil, and South Africa, calling their involvement a “noble mission” to stop hostilities and save lives. He specifically praised Trump for focusing on resolving the conflict and noted that Russia had expressed readiness to engage in peace talks as far back as July 2024.
The ceasefire proposal, backed by both Washington and Kyiv, involves a 30-day temporary truce. It was discussed during a high-level meeting between US and Ukrainian delegations in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been active in diplomatic efforts since the war began in February 2022. Last month, during a meeting with Trump at the White House, Modi clarified that India is not neutral in the conflict.
“India is siding with peace,” Modi said. “I have already told President Putin that this is not the era of war. I support the efforts taken by President Trump.”
