Chandigarh, March 13 – Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced that the state government has effectively controlled crime over the last 10 years. Despite the growing population and the use of new criminal methods, crime rates have steadily declined under the current administration.
Speaking in the Assembly during a discussion on the Governor’s address, CM Saini presented crime statistics to highlight the improvements. In 2014, 1,106 murder cases were reported, which dropped to 966 in 2024. Similarly, rioting cases decreased from 1,944 in 2014 to 1,772 in 2024. Cases of robbery fell from 172 in 2023 to 75 in 2024. Kidnapping cases dropped from 1,922 in 2014 to 1,540 in 2024. Dowry death cases also declined from 293 in 2023 to 177 in 2024.
Zero-Tolerance Policy Against Drugs
The Chief Minister stressed that the government is pursuing a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking. In 2023, 3,823 cases were filed under the NDPS Act, leading to the arrest of 5,119 people. In 2024, 3,331 cases were registered, and 5,094 arrests were made. Conviction rates in NDPS cases rose to 54% in 2024 from 48% the previous year. The government also seized and demolished the properties of drug traffickers. Additionally, 3,350 villages and 876 wards have been declared drug-free under the state’s anti-drug campaign.
Strict Measures to Prevent Exam Leaks
CM Saini informed the Assembly about strict measures to prevent exam leaks. Following a paper leak incident, seven invigilators and supervisors were suspended, and FIRs were registered against them. Additionally, 25 police personnel, including four DSPs, three SHOs, and two station in-charges, were suspended. Cases were also filed against four outsiders and eight students.
In the MBBS paper leak case, FIRs were filed against 17 employees and 24 students based on an investigation report. Eight university employees were suspended, nine were dismissed, and 17 were transferred. The university administration is also taking independent action.
Crackdown on Illegal Immigration Through “Donkey Routes”
The Chief Minister stated that the government is helping young people find opportunities abroad through the Foreign Cooperation Department. However, agents involved in illegal immigration through “donkey routes” are facing strict action. The Haryana Kaushal Rojgar Nigam Limited (HKRNL) has received approval from the Ministry of External Affairs to operate as a recruiting agent, and advertisements for this will be issued soon. A new bill to regulate travel agents and curb immigration fraud will also be introduced in the Assembly.
