Zelenskyy Prepares for Peace Talks with US Officials in Saudi Arabia

Kyiv [Ukraine], March 9, 2025: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that American and Ukrainian officials will meet in Saudi Arabia next week to discuss potential peace negotiations as the Russia-Ukraine war continues. Zelenskyy also shared details of his recent diplomatic discussions with the UK, highlighting ongoing efforts to secure a just and lasting peace.

In a post on X, Zelenskyy described a “highly productive” meeting in Kyiv with UK diplomatic representatives. He emphasized Ukraine’s determination to accelerate diplomatic efforts and bring an end to the war. His remarks followed a European leaders’ summit in London on March 2, where he expressed strong appreciation for the support Ukraine has received in its pursuit of European integration and security.

During a visit to the UK, Zelenskyy met with Prime Minister Keir Starmer to discuss Ukraine’s challenges and strategies for achieving peace with firm security guarantees. The two countries had previously signed a 100-year partnership agreement, committing to Ukraine’s recovery, technological innovation, and broader cooperation.

Looking ahead, Zelenskyy confirmed that he will travel to Saudi Arabia for talks with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman before a scheduled meeting between Ukrainian and US officials. Ukrainian representatives at the Saudi talks will include Andriy Yermak, Andriy Sybiha, Rustem Umerov, and Pavlo Palisa. Zelenskyy expressed hope for “constructive dialogue” and swift, effective decisions toward peace.

US envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed that he would meet Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia, with discussions expected to cover an “initial ceasefire” and a broader “framework” for a long-term agreement. Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the negotiations will take place in Jeddah.

This meeting marks the first high-level engagement between US and Ukrainian officials since Zelenskyy’s February 28 discussions with former US President Donald Trump.
