Haryana to Focus on Education Reforms, CM Holds Key Meeting with University Vice-Chancellors

Chandigarh, March 5 – Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini held a crucial meeting with vice-chancellors of state universities to discuss significant reforms in the education sector. He announced that the 2025-26 state budget will give special attention to education, ensuring that children receive quality education in line with the National Education Policy (NEP). The government has invited suggestions from all university heads to improve the education system further.

The Chief Minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to providing full scholarships to Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Scheduled Caste (SC) students from Haryana who pursue medical and engineering degrees in any government college across India. He directed officials to develop a framework for implementing this initiative at the earliest. He also emphasized the full implementation of NEP provisions in all universities and colleges to establish Haryana as a global education hub, where students can receive training in artificial intelligence (AI) and modern skills.

Focus on Agricultural Research and Sports Development

Discussing agricultural advancements, CM Saini urged Maharana Pratap Horticulture University to focus on research related to fruits and vegetables. He highlighted that the future lies in horticultural crops rather than traditional farming, and farmers should be encouraged to adopt crop diversification. The upcoming India International Horticulture Market in Ganaur will soon be inaugurated, benefiting farmers through enhanced exports and increased income. The university has been tasked with conducting region-specific research on fruit and vegetable cultivation.

In addition, the Chief Minister announced plans to establish sports schools in every district to develop young athletes. Universities will also be equipped with better sports facilities. He stressed the need to start training Haryana’s youth now for the 2036 Olympics, ensuring they represent the state and country on the global stage.

Encouraging Student Research and Innovation

Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda emphasized that Haryana’s youth possess immense talent but often lack opportunities. He suggested that schools and colleges organize exhibitions where students can present innovative models related to science, the environment, and other fields. The government will provide necessary guidance and funding to support research and innovation among students. The Education Department and universities will jointly prepare a roadmap to facilitate this initiative.
