Zelenskyy Seeks Reconciliation with Trump After U.S. Military Aid Suspension

Kyiv, Ukraine, March 4, 2025 – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed a strong desire to mend ties with the United States following President Donald Trump’s decision to pause military assistance to Ukraine. In a public address, Zelenskyy reaffirmed Ukraine’s commitment to peace negotiations and stressed the critical role of U.S. support in maintaining the country’s sovereignty.

Zelenskyy Calls for Constructive Dialogue

Describing the recent White House meeting as “regrettable,” Zelenskyy emphasized the need for future cooperation and expressed willingness to negotiate with Russia. He proposed an initial step toward peace—a mutual cessation of hostilities, provided Moscow takes reciprocal actions.

European Allies Express Concern

The suspension of U.S. military aid has alarmed Ukraine’s European allies. French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer have both called for renewed dialogue to address the ongoing conflict. Meanwhile, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has outlined plans to strengthen Europe’s defense capabilities, aiming to mobilize nearly €800 billion for military support.

Ukraine Ready to Finalize Security Agreement

Zelenskyy also stressed Ukraine’s readiness to finalize a minerals and security agreement with the United States, a deal seen as a step toward long-term security guarantees. He expressed hope that the agreement would be implemented swiftly to reinforce Ukraine’s economic and defense stability.

U.S. Support Crucial for Ukraine’s Sovereignty

Recalling President Trump’s past decision to supply Javelin missiles to Ukraine, Zelenskyy thanked the U.S. for its assistance. He urged for continued American engagement to ensure a lasting peace settlement and the protection of Ukraine’s sovereignty.
