SAS Nagar, March 4: In continuation of Chief Minister, Punjab Bhagwant Singh Mann’s ‘Yuddh Nasheya Viruddh’ campaign, action against drug smugglers and traffickers has been launched in the state on a war footing so that Punjab can be completely freed from the menace of drugs, said Punjab Minister for Health and Family Welfare, at Mohali, today.
Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh while addressing the media after holding a meeting with the private de-addiction centres of the district at the local Government De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre, said that during the campaign to create a drug-free society, the accountability of private de-addiction centres will be fixed and these centres will have to tell, how many persons have been come out of the clutches of drugs.
He said that making Punjab drug free is the topmost priority of the Punjab government, in which the cooperation of the common people is also very important. The Health Minister gave a stern warning to the drug smugglers and said that there is no space for them in Punjab. He said that the Punjab government is giving a strong message by taking exemplary action against the drug smugglers. He said that the drug smugglers should stop their illegal business immediately, otherwise be ready to go behind the bars.
He said that the Punjab Government is making various efforts to get the victims rid of drug addiction and include them in the mainstream of the society. He said that in this campaign, after getting the drug addicts rid of their addiction, they will also be given training in skill oriented courses by the government and after the training, they will be given loans under various schemes of the government to self-employment ventures.
He specially appealed to the women of the state that if any member of a family is fell pray to drug addiction then he/she should be immediately brought to the government de-addiction centre and the government promises that the life of their family member will be saved and they will be given a chance to live a healthy life again.
The Health Minister while interacting with the patients admitted in the de-addiction centre urged them to come out of the drug addiction forever.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Sonam Chaudhary, Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain, Extra Assistant Commissioner (under training) Gurmeet Singh, Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Parvinderpal Kaur and other officers were present during the visit of Health Minister.
