Punjab Minister Aman Arora Calls for United Front Against Drug Menace

Chandigarh, March 1, 2025: Punjab Cabinet Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president Aman Arora has urged all political parties, social organizations, religious groups, and NGOs to unite in the fight against drugs. He called for a collective effort to make Punjab a drug-free state, emphasizing that the issue cannot be tackled by the government and police alone.

Speaking after a high-level meeting of the five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee on drug eradication, Arora stressed that the fight against drugs is the responsibility of all 3 crore Punjabis. “We must stand united and fight this menace with all our might,” he said, adding that the previous governments were responsible for Punjab’s deep-rooted drug crisis.

Comprehensive 360-Degree Action Plan

The Punjab Government has launched a comprehensive strategy to tackle the drug problem from all angles, including prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.

Strict Action Against Drug Traffickers: Police have been instructed to deal with drug smugglers with an iron hand.

Empathy for Drug Users: Authorities will treat drug addicts as patients rather than criminals, ensuring they receive proper treatment and rehabilitation.

Arora highlighted the severe impact of drug abuse on individuals, families, and society. “This is a battle we must win together. We need every stakeholder’s commitment and strength to overcome this crisis,” he stated.

Warning to Drug Smugglers

Issuing a stern warning to those involved in drug smuggling, Arora declared, “Smugglers must either quit their trade or leave Punjab—otherwise, be ready to face the consequences.”

He reiterated the Punjab Government’s determination to eliminate the drug menace and appealed to parents and families of addicts to take their loved ones to government de-addiction centers or OOAT clinics for proper treatment.

Arora assured that the state government has made all necessary arrangements for the care and rehabilitation of drug victims. “If anyone faces difficulties, they can contact local authorities for immediate help. The Punjab Government stands by them to support their recovery,” he concluded.
