CI Amritsar Seizes 10 Kg Heroin, Arrests Key Suspect

Amritsar (National Times): In a major breakthrough against drug smuggling, the Counter Intelligence (CI) wing of Amritsar Police apprehended an individual, identified as Harmandeep Singh, and recovered 10 kg of heroin during an intelligence-based operation in Mahal village, Amritsar, on Wednesday.

According to an official statement by DGP Punjab Police, the accused was in direct contact with Pakistan-based smuggler Chacha Bawa, who was using drones to transport heroin across the Attari sector for further distribution.

DGP Confirms Arrest, FIR Registered

DGP Punjab Police took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm the operation, stating: “In an intelligence-based operation, CI Amritsar apprehends Harmandeep Singh from Village Mahal, Amritsar, and recovers 10 Kg Heroin. The arrested accused was constantly in touch with Pakistan-based smuggler Chacha Bawa, who sent heroin via drones in the Attari sector for further distribution.”

He further stated that an FIR has been registered under the NDPS Act, and investigations are ongoing to identify other associates involved in the smuggling network.

AGTF Punjab Arrests Four in Murder Case

In another significant operation, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of Punjab Police arrested four associates of the Gurpreet Sekhon Gang for their involvement in the murder of Overseer Singh alias Satinder Singh alias Satti.

The DGP revealed that the suspects were nabbed on February 15, and a .32 bore pistol with six cartridges was seized from their possession. The accused have been identified as:

  • Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi (Village Selbrah, Bathinda)
  • Lovejeet Sharma alias Lavi (Village Bhai Rupa, Bathinda)
  • Vinod Kumar alias Skill Sharma (Village Bhai Rupa, Bathinda)
  • Gagandeep Singh (Bhagta Bhaika, Bathinda)

Additionally, the police impounded the vehicle used in the crime.

Background of the Murder Case

As per the Information and Public Relations Department, Punjab, the victim, Overseer Singh, was a history-sheeter who was shot dead at around 4 AM on February 5 in his native village, Bhai Rupa, Bathinda. The murder was allegedly carried out by a neighbor along with his associates due to personal enmity.

Following the attack, Singh was rushed to Civil Hospital, Bathinda, where doctors declared him dead. The case remains under investigation.
