Ranveer Allahbadia Moves Supreme Court Over Multiple FIRs in Comedy Show Controversy

New Delhi (Rajiv Sharma): YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, has approached the Supreme Court seeking protection from coercive action following multiple complaints and FIRs filed against him in different states. The legal proceedings stem from his controversial remarks on the comedy show India’s Got Latent.

On February 14, Allahbadia filed a writ petition under Article 32 of the Constitution, challenging the FIRs before Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna. However, the CJI declined to advance the scheduled hearing, stating, “We have already given a date of listing. No oral mentioning, please!”

Comedy Show Sparks Backlash

The controversy erupted after an episode featuring Allahbadia was uploaded on YouTube on February 8 as part of stand-up comedian Samay Raina’s show India’s Got Latent. With a subscriber base of over 7.3 million, the show is known for its bold comedic content. However, one particular exchange—where Allahbadia posed a controversial question about a contestant’s parents’ sexual relationship—sparked outrage, with critics calling it vulgar and inappropriate.

Legal Troubles Mount

As investigations continue, the Khar police in Mumbai have issued a second summons to Allahbadia, asking him to appear for questioning on February 14. He had previously failed to respond to an initial summons for February 13, despite a 3 PM deadline.

Police have already recorded statements from seven individuals in connection with the case, including prominent YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, content creator Apoorva Makhija, and Balraj Singh Ghai’s father, the owner of The Habitat Studio. Production manager Tushar Pujari and three other studio employees have also provided testimonies.

Meanwhile, separate probes are being conducted by Mumbai Police’s cyber cell and an Assam Police team, which has traveled to Mumbai to coordinate with Maharashtra cyber officials regarding the case.

Videos Removed Amid Controversy

As the backlash grew, comedian Samay Raina announced on February 12 that he had removed all episodes of India’s Got Latent from YouTube. Defending his intent, he stated that his goal was purely to entertain and make people laugh.

With legal proceedings underway, the case continues to fuel debates on the limits of comedic expression and the legal consequences of controversial content in India.
